Academic
Structure:
The
Medical Sciences Campus is the only campus of the University of Puerto
Rico system specialized in health sciences. It is composed of the
School of Medicine, the School of Dentistry, the Faculty of Biosocial
Sciences and Graduate School of Public Health, the School of Pharmacy,
the College of Health Related Professions and the School of Nursing.
Three support deanships i. e., Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and
Administration, assist the Chancellor and the schools in daily
operations. The School of Nursing and the College of Health Related
Professions (CHRP) offer
different undergraduates programs.
This CHRP includes 3 associate degrees and 8 bachelor’s
degrees. Also these Schools and others as the School of Medicine, the
School of Dentistry and the Graduate School of Public Health offer a
total of 53 graduate programs

The
Library
The
University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus Library is the main
health sciences information resource in the island and the most
complete collection of its kind in the Caribbean. The Puerto Rican
Collection contains unique and valuable information about the history
and development of the health sciences in Puerto Rico. One of the most
important is the Bailey K. Ashford Collection. The Medical Sciences
Campus Library is a resource of the Library of the National Network of
Libraries of Medicine and it is also member of the Consortium of
Southern Biomedical Libraries (CONBLS). The health information
databases may be accessed through the campus web page www.rcm.upr.edu

Computer
Facilities
CompuCentro
is the computer services and information unit of the Deanship for
Academic Affairs. The Center holds several activities through the
year from which users may select, depending on their needs:
workshops, formal courses, small group teaching, one-on-one teaching
and others similar activities. The facilities of CompuCentro consist
of two distinctive areas: a two room PC technology section used for
training and/or independent work; and electronic classroom section,
dedicated to formal courses and/or specialized training. Also each
school has a computer center for these students and faculty members.

Special Facilities
Animal
Resources Center is responsible for the daily care of all animals
used for teaching and research at the Medical Sciences Campus.
Caribbean
Primate Research Center consists of three facilities with close to
2,000 rhesus monkeys available for biomedical and behavioral
research. It has the world’s largest collection of complete
nonhuman primate skeletons for osteological research.
The
Institute of Neurobiology of the University of Puerto Rico, Medical
Sciences Campus is an interdepartmental, interdisciplinary research
facility devotes to and equipped for the study of excitable cells
and the neurobiology systems formed by them.
Puerto
Rico Cancer Center is an integral component of the Medical Sciences
Campus and comprises programs of basic research, clinical research,
medical care education, and community services. It also includes the
Islandwide Cancer Management System.
The
Natural Products Laboratory screens natural products for potential
anti-HIV, anticancer, and anti-malarial bioactives. Through the
National Institutes of Health Research Centers for Minority
Institutions grant, an AIDS Screening Laboratory was established in
house, being the only one of its kind in the Caribbean and Latin
America.
The
Drug Information Center of the School of Pharmacy is the only
existing drug information service available to health care
professionals in Puerto Rico, and one of the best of its kind in
Latin America.
Title
X Family Planning Program provides comprehensive health services for
women and men of reproductive age throughout Puerto Rico. The
University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, Graduate School
of Public Health has been a Title X grantee since July 1969. In
1982, it was designated the sole Title X grantee within the
Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
The
School of Pharmacy and the School of Dentistry are the only schools
in Puerto Rico that offer academic degrees in Pharmacy and
Dentistry.
The
Graduate School of Public Health and the College of Health Related
Professions offer some academic degrees that are unique in Puerto
Rico. The first offers Doctorate in Public Health and Masters in
Public Health and Masters of Science with specialty in
Epidemiology, Demography and Evaluation Research , Health Services
Administration and others. The last offers Masters of Science with
specialty in Audiology, Health Information Administration and Physical
Therapy and Bachelor in Occupational Therapy and others.
